A lot of people want to know what swing speed Tiger Woods reaches. Here's the answer: 130 mph! For comparison: pro golfers generally achieve a club speed of around 100 mph.
Now, you probably want to know how you can increase your swing speed. Besides your club grip and your distance you need to work on the full swing (that you us to tee off or in the fairway). You can divide the full swing in three parts: 1) the back swing 2) the down swing and 3) the follow-through.
The back swing (step 1-3) is where the power comes from - it basically sets the speed of your swing and how far the ball will go. In down swing (step 4) is the phase where the club goes down and hits the ball. The goal here is to hit the center of the ball - not the left or the right side. The end part is called the follow-through (steps 5-6). A proper execution here is necessary for a good ball contact. Here's the whole motion sequence:
1) Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, knees bent slightly.
2) Lean forward just a bit and move the club parallel with your feet.
3) Moving your back towards the target, get your hands up over your right shoulder (if you're right-handed) with your left knee moving to the right. The weight should be on your right knee.
4) Drop your arms with your right elbow slightly to your right hip and hit the ball.
5) Extend your right arm and the club in a straight line. Keep V-position of your arms to reach the maximum speed.
6) Now your hands should be over your left shoulder. Pay attention that the weight is on the left foot.
